Sturgeon Fishing

Thursday, September 14th, 2017 – (7:00 am—4:00 pm)

 Sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River offers anglers a world class experience. There are 3 areas of the Fraser that anglers should consider while planning their sturgeon fishing vacation. For the purposes of sport fishing we divide the Fraser into Lower/Middle, Fraser Canyon and Upper Fraser Canyon. All three areas provide great opportunities but knowing “when to fish where” is the key to success. STS has been fishing these waters for over 20 years and offers anglers the opportunity to fish these great locations.

Fall brings the millions of salmon migrating up the Fraser River to spawn in local tributaries. Sturgeon reply on these salmon as a major food source and must feed on them to survive the winter months, that is why the Fall is considered the best fishing on the Lower and middle Fraser area. Some of the largest surgeon of the year are caught and landed in the Mission area as this area is known as the feeding lane for White Sturgeon. Best time to fish in the Fall is between Sept 1 to November 15.

Sturgeon are known for Tail walking leaps and can quickly spool 200yds of line, an average fish of 4 to 6 feet will test the skill and strength of any angler. During peak periods is when our average size will increase though you can catch 8 to 10 footers any time of year.

Lunch is provided and Includes: Deli sandwiches, salad, snacks, pastry, fruit and bottled water and soda.

Although the boats are covered, please dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide you with all fishing tackle, rods, reels, waders and all other fishing related items. Visit Guide BC for further information.

Cost: $ 320.00 p.p. (Tax Included) Includes: Transfer, Fishing Excursion, License, and Lunch with all Gratuities. All fishing tackle, rods, reels, waders and all other fishing related items will be provided.

Hands on Cooking Class at the Dirty Apron Cooking School

Join us to learn how to make the perfect fall meal to showcase the many delicious flavours this season has to offer. To start, you’ll prepare Roasted Butternut Squash Tortellini with Wild Mushroom Ragu. Followed by Classic Italian Osso Buco with Roasted GarlicAsiago Polenta.  Top these off with a decadent Chocolate & Barollo Crema for dessert.

Welcome to Vancouver!  To kick off our 25th Annual Scientific Meeting we will join our meeting sponsors other delegates and guests to rekindle old acquaintances and make new.  This year we have changed the format and will feature a Reception Style event hosted early in the Sponsor Trade show area, allowing you the chance to then experience Vancouver’s many Restaurants.  Reception hosted on the second level of the Vancouver, Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel.

Vancouverism Walking Tour & Luncheon –  Partner / Guest Event

Friday, September 15th (10:00 am – 2:30 pm)

Meet in Lobby 9:45 am

The Tour – We will start the day after breakfast at 10 to meet up for our Vancouverism walking tour. We start at Vancouver’s downtown waterfront, which will include Harbour Centre for a 360-degree view of the city.  We will visit the Marine Building, Hotel Europe and then stroll Gastown and see our notable steam clock and continue into Chinatown and Strathcona, two oldest neighbourhoods in Vancouver. We will visit the world’s narrowest office building and if time permits we will take a quick tour of the Rennie Private Art Museum. The walking tour ends with lunch at Chambar.

Vancouverism – ‘Vancouverism’ started as a set of local design principles that arose from our city’s unique approach to human centered urbanism.  These ideas quickly moved from experiment to expertise and have become so successful they are exported globally as examples for other cities to follow.  To build on this success, Designers Collective is now expanding on the idea of a unique Vancouverist approach to design by extending our city’s inclusive humanism into the realm of interiors, furniture design, art and artisanry.

Chef Nico Schuermans and his wife Karri have brought to life their dream of opening a restaurant where guests can experience fine dining in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Their philosophy is based on a commitment to fresh, innovative, and incredible food that is presented without pretension. The result is a restaurant with exquisite cuisine, exceptional service, and a room that glows. Chambar – an unpretentious fling with fine dining.

Chef Nico Schuermans is a qualified chef and restaurateur, and has been in the hospitality industry since he was 14. Nico received his qualifications from the prestigious CREPAC School of culinary arts in Belgium. His apprenticeship was with ‘La Villa Lorraine’ (two star Michelin), and went on to work as Chef de Partie for ‘Comme Chez Soi’ (three star Michelin for 20 years), which is considered Belgium’s finest restaurant. Nico cooked for Mick Jagger, Prince, Bill Clinton, and many other celebrities. Nico was Chef de Partie at the Savoy Hotel in London, where over 1000 people were served at each sitting. He completed his professional training here before moving on to become Head Chef at ‘Alhambra’ in Sydney, Australia.

Before leaving Australia, Nico was invited to cook at the ‘Epoch – Belgian Beer Café’ for the Belgian national athletes, and visiting Royals. Upon coming to Canada Nico and his wife lived in Whistler, where Nico was employed by ‘La Rua’ Restaurant.  Nico lived in New York for 5 months, working as manager at ‘Gitane’ in Soho before returning to Canada.

This Year we are trying something new, to involve the entire group.  The President’s Party will move to Friday Night to create a more Casual and Fun Night for everyone.  Pre-Dinner Reception and Dinner will be held on top of the Vancouver Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel with Spectacular city and water vistas.  After dining in the sky, we will move downstairs where a fun and relaxing party will continue.  This more casual format is designed to get all members, guests, speakers and sponsors together for a fun and informal night.

Evening Entertainment “Noah Nine”

The story of Noah Nine begins in Japan in 1994 where Sean Dillon and Richard Dolmat met as contracted street musicians at a theme park north of Tokyo. They soon discovered a chemistry that would serve them well in developing their lucrative musical careers. Since then, they have delighted audiences on three continents and seven countries.

Noah Nine are well known for their renditions of classic cover tunes from The Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and other 60’s favourites. Sean and Richard bring a hip irreverent sense of humour to their retro repertoire. They’re fun! They’re entertaining! And they ROCK!!! With songs spanning four decades, featuring guitar, keyboards, drums, pristine vocals and a keen sense of humor, this charismatic duo has the ability to entertain large crowds of all ages.
